SAN FRANCISCO — Sean Rad, CEO of Tinder, is denying charges of gender discrimination brought by a former executive.

In a memo[1] to employees leaked to the technology blog TechCrunch, Rad said the lawsuit "paints an inaccurate picture of my actions and what went on here."

Whitney Wolfe filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday alleging a pattern of gender discrimination and harassment at the company, which runs the popular mobile dating app Tinder.

Wolfe, Tinder's former vice president of marketing, claimed that Tinder took away her title because having a female co-founder would make the company "seem like a joke." She also said she was called a "whore" at a party.

Tinder confirmed the memo was issued by Rad. In it, Rad said the lawsuit "is full of factual inaccuracies and omissions."

"We take gender equality very seriously and none of this reflects the Tinder and culture that we have worked so hard to create," Rad said.

But, Rad said, communications sent to Wolfe by Tinder co-founder and marketing chief Justin Mateen, with whom she was once romantically involved, were "unacceptable." IAC, which has a majority stake in Tinder, said Mateen has been suspending during an internal investigation.

"I wish I had done more in terms of managing what was clearly a complex situation," Rad said.

Wolfe's attorney, David Lowe, said Rad's "continuing refusal to acknowledge the discrimination and harassment at Tinder is a primary reason Ms. Wolfe was forced to file this lawsuit."

"We absolutely stand by the accuracy of the allegations in the complaint, which are corroborated by documents and witnesses," Lowe said.
