Tech stocks: HP earnings due this week

Will declining personal computer continue to hamper electronics maker Hewlett-Packard? Let's take a look at the tech stocks to watch Monday.

HP to report earnings Wednesday. Shares of the PC giant are down a half-percent in pre-market trading as they get ready to announce third-quarter earnings after the markets close Wednesday.

The results could be a fresh sign of the PC market's woes, as more consumers shift to tablets and smartphones.

The company is forecast to rake in an earnings per share of 87 cents off $27.3 billion in revenue. Last quarter, HP earnings topped analyst expectations despite a dip in revenue.

BlackBerry dips. Shares of the smartphone maker are down nearly 2% as the company's leaders continue to weigh a potential sale.

Last week, the company announced it was exploring "strategic alternatives,"[1] which include joint ventures and even a sale.

BlackBerry's lineup of BB10 devices -- including the touchscreen-only Z10 and the Q10 -- have failed to capture consumers' interest in a competitive smartphone market. Recently, Microsoft's Windows mobile platform passed BlackBerry as the No. 3 operating system based on global smartphone shipments.
