Tech Five: Twitter tweaking user timelinesGet ready for more changes to your timeline, Twitter users. Let's look at the five technology stocks to watch Wednesday:
Twitter.[1] It's not just tweets and retweets from followers that users of the social network can expect to see in their timeline. According to Quartz[2], Twitter quietly tweaked language explaining timelines by noting they could include updates from accounts users don't follow. "We select each Tweet using a variety of signals, including how popular it is and how people in your network are interacting with it," reads Twitter's explainer on timelines[3]. "Our goal is to make your home timeline even more relevant and interesting."
Netflix.[4] Add Time Warner to the list of broadband providers Netflix has struck deals with to speed up streams from the media company, GigaOM reports[5]. Netflix also has similar arrangements with Comcast, AT&T and Verizon.
Microsoft.[6] One year after announcing his retirement as CEO, Steve Ballmer revealed he will step down from Microsoft's board[7]. Ballmer cites a "multitude of new commitments," including serving as the new owner of the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers.
T-Mobile.[8] French telecommunications company Iliad is reportedly talking with Google and Microsoft on drafting a bigger bid for the fourth-largest wireless carrier in the U.S. The New York Post reports it's not clear how close Iliad is to striking a deal. T-Mobile nixed Iliad's initial bid worth $15 billion.
Google.[9] The tech giant has had a busy year updating its widely popular search engine. Amit Singhal, who heads up search at Google[10], says the company made 890 changes to search over the past year. Recently, the company celebrated 10 years since launching its IPO.
