Polyvore releases iPad app
Polyvore, the website that lets folks make online collages of fashions and goods, introduces its iPad app.

NEW YORK — Each month, over 20 million users come to the Polyvore website to make online collages of fashions and furniture and to buy goods.
Today, their No. 1 request is served: Polyvore releases an iPad app for tablet collage making.
"Now you can create (collages) on a touchscreen, which is more fun," says CEO Jess Lee.
Lee, who is based at Polyvore headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., was in New York recently to speak at a conference and met USA TODAY at its sales offices here to show off the app.
Think of Polyvore as Pinterest with e-commerce. The mostly female audience looks at images of fashion, beauty and home goods, and mixes and matches them into online collages. From there, they can buy the stuff directly from retailers like Nordstrom, Lord and Taylor and Amazon.
Polyvore, which is profitable, takes a commission on each product sold.
"You know how people rip out pages of fashion magazines and clip them together?" asks Lee. "It's just like that, except it's interactive and fun, and you get access to this huge catalog of products from all over the web. So it's just another way to express what you love."
For instance, "You can grab products from your favorite stores, like shoes from J. Crew, and mix and match with a top from H&M. And you lay it out in a beautiful way. It's what you wish you were wearing and what you want to be wearing."
Before the app, you could make an online collage at the website, or via the iPhone app.
For the iPad, the mobile app has been re-designed, (on the iPhone too) to put products front and center.
For now, Lee says she wants to expand to Android soon, as well as add more product categories beyond fashion, beauty and home. Additionally, she wants to expand beyond the English language. Some 45% of Polyvore's audience comes from outside the United States, "so we think there's a big opportunity there."
