'Minecraft' launching on next-gen consoles this summerVideo game studio Mojang confirmed[1] a version of its hit game Minecraft will be available on next-generation consoles this summer.
The studio will launch Minecraft Xbox One Edition and Minecraft PlayStation 4 Edition in August for $19.99. Owners of the 360 and PS3 versions of the game will be able to upgrade for $4.99.
"We've decided that letting current players upgrade for a small fee is the best way to show our appreciation," read a statement from Mojang.
Players who have built worlds on Xbox 360 or PS3 can import their saved data onto the new console. Mojang is also launching a version of Minecraft for the PlayStation Vita.
Minecraft, originally released in 2009, has morphed into one of the most popular titles in recent years. In April, Minecraft creator Markus Persson confirmed on Twitter[2] the original game for PCs sold 15 million copies. Sales of the Xbox 360 version topped 12 million. That same month, Minecraft creator Jens Bergensten confirmed[3]Minecraft: Pocket Edition for mobile devices reached 21 million downloads.
