Publisher Telltale Games revealed the first details for Minecraft: Story Mode, a standalone adventure game based on the popular world-building franchise.
Information on the collaboration with Minecraft makers Mojang were unveiledĀ during the fan event Minecon in London on Saturday.
The game will feature several actors lending their voices to the game, including Patton Oswalt, Ashley Johnson and Corey Feldman, with additional info on the cast coming soon. Oswalt will play lead character Jesse, as he and group of friends seek out the Order of the Stone to save the world.
Story Mode is a different approach for the Minecraft series, which focuses more on openness and ability to create and customize the world to the player's liking. Telltale is best known for episodic adventure games including The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. Storytelling is a key component to Telltale's adventures.
"We've worked closely with the amazing team at Mojang to ensure this story is a natural fit for the Minecraft world fans already know and love," said Kevin Bruner, CEO and co-founder of Telltale Games, in a statement.
The game launches later this year for PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox and mobile devices running Android and iOS.
