VENICE BEACH, Calif. — Welcome to another weekend edition of Talking Tech, where we take a look at some of the popular apps that folks are chatting about. Today, gauge your smarts with Idiot Test 3[1].

The popular app, updated this summer, has been high atop Apple's iTunes app charts for weeks. It made the top 100 all-time list this year, and has been downloaded more than 6 million times. It sells for 99 cents. App maker Nexx Studio, based in Malaysia, adapted Idiot from creator Ryan Curtis' online version.

"It makes you feel really stupid," says Gianna Panaro of Las Vegas, visiting here at Venice Beach.

In the Idiot Test, users advance to the next level by choosing a rectangle in a list of red squares, using their smarts to decipher the difference between yellow and green, or a duck in a sea of dog images.

Idiot Test is another in a host of apps, like Candy Crush Saga and Bubble Wrap, simply aimed at helping you kill time.

"When you get it wrong, you feel like an idiot, and when you get it right, you feel smart," Panaro adds.

Reggie Marshall from Los Angeles plays it often. "It's genius," he says. "It's so easy, it's hard."

Gabby Mazz, also from Las Vegas, likes the feeling she gets after advancing several levels. "When you beat it, you feel really accomplished," she says.
