U.S. Century Bank[4] has submitted an application to regulators to relocate its Coral Gables[5] branch at 3001 Ponce de Leon Blvd. just under a mile to 396 Alhambra Circle. The proposed branch is on the ground floor of the south tower of the 396 Alhambra building.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.[6] received the application on Jan. 2. The branch is one of the bank's 20 locations in Miami-Dade County and one of two in Coral Gables[7].
As of June 30, the 3001 Ponce de Leon Blvd. branch had more than $20 million in deposits, down from nearly $38 million in deposits at the same time in the pervious year.
The Doral-based bank did not return a request for comment. The undercapitalized bank is currently in the midst of a shareholders lawsuit that has complicated plans to close a $65 million recapitalization deal with two unidentified investment groups.
The 396 Alhambra building is a mixed-use office and retail development in Coral Gables developed by Miami-based Agave Holdings LLC. The south tower of the building is seven stories tall.[8]
