LaCrosse Footwear Inc.[5] on Friday said it plans to open a downtown Portland location. It did not provide details about the store's size or location.

The company also named Robert Sasaki[6] president.

The Portland-based maker of boots for the outdoor and military markets was acquired for $138 million last year[7] by ABC Mart, a major Japanese footwear retailer.

Chief executive Joseph P. Schneider[8] and Chief Financial Officer David P. Carlson[9] resigned after the acquisition[10].

ABC-Mart plans a "larger investment" in LaCrosse, according to a news release.

The investment includes global marketing campaigns and expanded manufacturing and distribution in Europe and Asia.

Sasaki has more than 15 years of experience in finance and apparel. He previously served as a finance director at Nike Inc., where he focused on Asia.

"I am thrilled to join the LaCrosse Footwear team," he said in a news release. "We recognize the unique opportunity for legendary American heritage brands Danner and LaCrosse to partner with Japan's leading footwear retailer."

Matthew Kish covers banking, finance, footwear/apparel and higher education.
