The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation has launched its annual fall fundraising campaign with a $175,000 challenge gift. Bank of America Corp.[1] donated $100,000, and the leadership of the foundation and the library contributed $75,000. The funds will be used to match public contributions dollar-for-dollar.
Donors can support the gift by going to foundation.cmlibrary.org.
The foundation was established a year ago to raise awareness and private support for library operations. The funds will be used for services, books and materials, programming for literacy, educational success and work-force development, and an endowment for future needs.
Charles Bowman[2], North Carolina and Charlotte market president for Bank of America, announced the gift last night. Bowman serves as the chairman of the library's board of trustees. “The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library connects people and the power of learning to allow our community and economy to grow and meet the ever-changing demands of a modern, global society,” Bowman says in a statement. “We’re pleased to support the programs that provide these connections and help individuals enrich their lives and brighten their futures.”
The foundation is “grateful for Bank of America’s leadership and support in launching this exciting challenge,” says Jenni Gaisbauer[3], executive director.
The foundation was established as a result of the findings of a library task force in a 2011 report, which called for an increased emphasis on private fundraising for long- and short-term goals.
