Brownback ends counties’ home mortgage fees
- Staff Kansas City Business Journal
Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback[1] signed legislation that phases out fees Kansas lenders pay to register home mortgages, KSN reports[2].
The move would eliminate $53 million that goes almost entirely to counties, though the bill raises other fees to partially offset the loss, the report says. The phase-out runs through 2019.
Ed Eilert[3], chairman of the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners, told the Kansas City Business Journal earlier in the session that such a move would cost the county about $16 million to $17 million a year[4].
